A good
example of the highly regarded Farr 6000. Built by the respected Sea
Nymph Ltd of Auckland NZ, this boat features the scissors pop-top with
sliding hatch, and factory built-in ice box.
Sail wardrobe is in good to excellent condition - loose-footed, fully
battened dacron main by KA Sails (Binks), with two reefing points.
Dacron genoa by Hood sails, Dacron working jib by UK Sails (Ulmer Kolius),
and a pretty red, white & blue spinnaker from Hood sails. Jib furler
for shorthanded sailing.
Auxiliary power is provided by a neat & tidy 8 hp Johnson extra long leg
outboard, with battery charging loop. As you can see in the photos,
when we ran her in our test tank she started easily, shifted gears
flawlessly and pumped plenty of cooling water through the telltale.
Fuel tank is a 22 litres. The outboard is ideal for cruising, thanks
to the extra long leg and is about maximum power for a Farr 6000. In
fact, Ross uses exactly the same size & model motor to power his Farr
7500. The extra horsepower would be very handy if you found yourself
pushing against strong winds or strong tides, (or both).
The interior of a Farr 6000 is quite amazing for what is only a twenty
foot trailer yacht - it is very open, airy & light inside for size.
A bulkhead ensures privacy for the V-berth & chemical toilet, and the
front hatch provides ample flow-through ventilation. It is a
practical layout for cruising. The swing keel is partly housed in a
skeg, minimising the intrusion of the centreboard case in the interior.
Trailer is
NSW registered until July 2008. It is a 2004 model Marlin dual axle
with cable over-ride disc brakes. As you would expect, it presents
very well. There is a spare wheel and the light connection is the
NSW standard "Flat 7 pin" plug. It has the optional mesh walkway and
bearing buddies on each wheel.
Electronics include Lowrance depth sounder, a log, and both a GME 27 MHz
transceiver and a VHF transceiver. 12 volt deep cycle battery,
interior lights & navigation lights. There are pelican clips on the
life lines for easier access from jetties. The canvas boom awning is
in very good condition, and the pop-top covers keep the weather out when
at anchor. The cockpit cushions are thick and comfortable.
If you have been waiting for a nice Farr 6000, don't miss out - inspect
this boat in the near future.
